Dental Crowns in Corpus Christi Restore and Makeover Teeth!

July 9, 2017

The worst thing you can do when faced with a problem is to ignore it—especially when it comes to dental problems. The issue in your mouth will never improve if you don’t seek treatment, only get worse. If one or more of your teeth have become damaged, you should visit the dental practice of Sarah Pitarra, DDS for dental crowns in Corpus Christi. Let’s explore how a dental crown can help you re-stabilize your smile.

What are dental crowns?

If you need help with the stability of a tooth, our office offers a great option: aesthetically pleasing dental crowns. Dental crowns are designed to completely cover individual teeth. Ours do just that and give your teeth a gorgeous makeover. This restoration can be precisely matched to the color of your smile, camouflaging them amongst your natural teeth. When you choose to visit Dr. Pitarra, you don’t have to worry about pesky metal fillings that create dark spots in your smile.

Why might my dentist recommend a dental crown for me?

The process of getting a dental crown installed significantly improves the tooth’s health and appearance. Crowns can be attached to dental implants to create a lifelike tooth replacement or used to improve a tooth suffering from advanced tooth decay. There are several reasons why your cosmetic dentist in Corpus Christi may recommend having a crown placed, including:

  • Helping restore a tooth that just had root canal therapy.
  • Rebuilding the structure of a badly injured or fractured tooth.
  • Giving a discolored a quick makeover.
  • Protecting a weak tooth from the threat of a fracture.
  • Attaching it to a dental implant as a prosthetic.
  • Restoring a large area of decay that is too severe for a filling.

What can I expect when I have a dental crown placed?

After meeting with Dr. Pitarra to decide if dental crowns are best for you, you will simply need to schedule two separate visits to our office to place them. One visit is for taking impressions to send to a lab and the placement of a temporary crown. The next appointment is to complete the placement with your custom dental crown.

Dr. Pitarra first makes sure your tooth can support a crown, then begins filing it down to prepare for the crown’s placement. On the other hand, if your tooth is severely damaged or broken, your dentist may need to fill it in to make it strong enough to stabilize the crown. After the tooth is filed or filled to the proper shape, Dr. Pitarra will take an impression of the tooth and send that information to a dental lab. Our trusted lab will then create your personalized crown. By the end of this first visit, your tooth will have a temporary crown that protects you from further discomfort until you visit us for your second appointment. At your second visit, we will fasten the new, permanent crown to the tooth with a special adhesive.
